Step 1: Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together:
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Pickle relish
- Garlic powder
- Smoked paprika
- Black pepper
Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Step 2: Prepare the Patties
Divide the beef into 8 equal portions.
Shape each into a thin burger patty slightly larger than the buns.
Season both sides with:
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
Step 3: Cook the Onions
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Cook the onion slices for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and lightly caramelized.
Set aside.
Step 4: Cook the Burgers
Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
Cook the patties for 3–4 minutes per side.
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and let it melt.
Step 5: Toast the Buns
Spread butter on the cut sides of the burger buns.
Toast them in a skillet for 1–2 minutes until golden.
Step 6: Assemble the Burgers
Spread burger sauce on the bottom bun.
Layer with:
- Lettuce
- Tomato slices
- Grilled onions
- One cheeseburger patty
- Second cheeseburger patty
- Extra burger sauce
- Pickles (optional)
Finish with the top bun.
Step 7: Serve
Serve immediately with crispy French fries, onion rings, or coleslaw.
