Polish-Style Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Carefully place the whole cabbage in the boiling water.
  3. Cook for 8–10 minutes, loosening the leaves as they soften.
  4. Remove the leaves and let them cool.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. In a large bowl, combine:
    • Ground beef
    • Ground pork
    • Cooked rice
    • Chopped onion
    • Egg
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • Garlic powder
    • Paprika
  2. Mix until everything is evenly combined.

Step 3: Roll the Cabbage

  1. Lay a cabbage leaf flat.
  2. Place about 2 tablespoons of filling near the stem end.
  3. Fold the sides inward and roll tightly.
  4. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

Step 4: Make the Sauce

  1. In a saucepan, combine:
    • Tomato sauce
    • Crushed tomatoes
    • Brown sugar
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Basil
  2. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread a thin layer of sauce in a baking dish.
  3. Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down.
  4. Pour the remaining sauce over the top.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake 15 more minutes.
