Homemade Lemon Syrup

  • by

Step 1: Prepare the Lemons

Wash the lemons thoroughly.

Peel the lemons using a vegetable peeler, avoiding the white pith as much as possible. Juice the lemons and set the juice aside.

Step 2: Make the Syrup

In a medium saucepan, combine:

  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Lemon peels
  • Lemon zest (if using)

Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 8–10 minutes.

Step 3: Add the Lemon Juice

Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Stir in the fresh lemon juice and allow the syrup to cool for about 10 minutes.

Step 4: Strain

Pour the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean bowl or measuring cup, discarding the lemon peels.

Step 5: Bottle

Transfer the cooled syrup to a sterilized glass bottle or jar.

Seal tightly and refrigerate.

Step 6: Serve

Mix 2–3 tablespoons of lemon syrup with:

  • 1 cup cold water
  • Sparkling water
  • Iced tea
  • Lemonade
  • Cocktails or mocktails

Serve over ice and garnish with fresh lemon slices or mint leaves.

Tips

  • Add a few fresh mint leaves while simmering for a refreshing mint-lemon syrup.
  • For a richer citrus flavor, use a combination of lemons and limes.
  • Reduce the sugar slightly if you prefer a more tart syrup.
  • Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up toΒ 3 weeks.
  • Freeze leftover syrup in ice cube trays for quick use in drinks.

Enjoy this refreshing homemade lemon syrup on hot days or whenever you want a burst of fresh citrus flavor! πŸ‹πŸ₯€
