Thanks to This Simple Trick, Your Home Can Smell Fresh Naturally with Just 2 Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • ¼ cup carrier oil (such as sweet almond oil, safflower oil, or fractionated coconut oil)
  • 20–30 drops of your favorite essential oil

Optional

  • 1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol or vodka (helps the fragrance travel up the reeds)
  • Glass bottle or small decorative jar
  • Reed diffuser sticks or bamboo skewers

Step 1: Prepare the Bottle

Choose a clean glass bottle with a narrow opening.

A smaller opening slows evaporation and helps the diffuser last longer.

Step 2: Add the Carrier Oil

Pour about ¼ cup of carrier oil into the bottle.

The carrier oil helps the fragrance evaporate slowly over time.

Step 3: Add Essential Oils

Add 20–30 drops of essential oil.

Popular combinations include:

  • Lavender + vanilla
  • Lemon + rosemary
  • Orange + cinnamon
  • Peppermint + eucalyptus
  • Grapefruit + bergamot

Adjust the amount depending on how strong you like the scent.

Step 4: Add Alcohol (Optional)

Mix in 1 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol or vodka.

This can help the oil travel more easily through the reeds.

Gently swirl the bottle to combine the ingredients.

Step 5: Insert the Reeds

Place 5–8 reed sticks into the bottle.

Allow them to absorb the scented oil for several hours.

Then flip the reeds over so the saturated ends are facing upward.

Step 6: Refresh the Fragrance

Flip the reeds every 5–7 days to maintain a fresh scent.

Replace the reeds every few months if they become clogged with oil.
