The two attorneys behind Ashley instantly looked at each other, their faces turning a sickly shade of gray. One of them hurriedly pulled out a tablet, his fingers flying across the screen as he checked the federal case registries.
“She’s right… Mr. Carter is right,” the lawyer whispered to Ashley, his voice trembling. “The injunction was active on the fourteenth. The transaction is completely void under federal banking regulations.”
“Shut up!” Ashley shrieked, spinning around to glare at her own legal team. “I pay you millions to handle this! Fix it!”

“They can’t fix it, Ashley,” a new voice boomed from the edge of the parking lot.
David Reynolds walked out from behind the shelter building, accompanied by two agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They didn’t look at Ashley’s lawyers. They walked straight up to her, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from their belts.
“Ashley Bennett,” the lead agent announced, his voice echoing in the quiet gravel lot. “You are under arrest for identity fraud, conspiracy to commit extortion, grand larceny regarding the redirection of corporate funds, and manufacturing fraudulent evidence.”
Ashley stumbled backward, her high heels twisting in the gravel as the officers grabbed her arms, forcing her hands behind her back. The sleek, manicured facade completely shattered, revealing the hysterical, trapped criminal underneath.
“Michael, please!” she screamed as the steel clicked around her wrists. “I did it for us! Emily was nothing! She didn’t deserve you! You can’t let them do this to me!”
