No-Oven Stovetop Bread

1. Prepare the dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.

2. Mix the wet ingredients

In another bowl, whisk the egg and milk together. Slowly add the melted butter and mix until smooth.

3. Make the dough

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon just until everything is combined.

Do not overmix—the dough should be soft and slightly sticky.

4. Prepare the pan

Lightly grease a heavy-bottomed skillet or nonstick pan with about 1 teaspoon of butter or oil.

Place the pan over low heat for a minute or two.

5. Add the dough

Transfer the dough to the skillet and gently spread it into an even round, approximately ¾–1 inch thick.

Cover the skillet tightly with a lid.

6. Cook slowly

Cook over very low heat for about 12–18 minutes.

The bottom should become golden brown while the center gradually cooks through. Keep the heat low so the bottom doesn’t burn before the middle is done.

7. Flip the bread

When the bottom is golden and the top has begun to set, carefully loosen the bread with a spatula and flip it.

Cover again and cook for another 8–12 minutes, or until the second side is golden and the center is fully cooked.

8. Add butter and serve

Transfer the bread to a plate and brush the top with a little melted butter.

Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Serve warm with butter, honey, jam, cheese, or your favorite spread.

Helpful Tips

  • Keep the heat low throughout cooking to prevent the bottom from burning.
  • A heavy skillet with a tight-fitting lid gives the best results.
  • If the dough seems extremely dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk.
  • If the center is still wet after browning, lower the heat and cook covered for a few additional minutes.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder, dried herbs, or grated Parmesan to the dough.

Enjoy your warm, homemade bread—without turning on the oven!
