Bring Your Oven Door Back to Crystal Clear with Just Baking Soda & White Vinegar
A greasy oven door can make even the cleanest kitchen look messy. Luckily, you don’t need harsh chemicals or endless scrubbing to remove baked-on grease. This simple method uses everyday household ingredients to loosen grime naturally, making cleanup quick and effortless.
Why This Method Works
Baking soda is a gentle abrasive that helps break down grease and food residue without scratching the glass.
White vinegar reacts with the baking soda, creating a fizzing action that lifts stubborn stains and softens baked-on grease.
Together, they make one of the easiest and most effective oven-cleaning solutions.
What You’ll Need
- ½ cup baking soda
- White vinegar in a spray bottle
- Warm water
- Soft microfiber towel
- Non-scratch sponge
- Rubber gloves (optional)
Step 1: Remove the Oven Door (Optional)
If your oven door is removable, carefully take it off and place it on a flat surface covered with an old towel.
If it isn’t removable, simply open it fully and continue cleaning.
Step 2: Sprinkle Baking Soda
Generously sprinkle baking soda over the greasy glass, paying extra attention to areas with heavy buildup.
The baking soda should form a light, even layer across the surface.
Step 3: Spray with White Vinegar
Lightly spray white vinegar over the baking soda.
You’ll immediately notice a gentle fizzing reaction. This helps loosen grease and soften stubborn stains.
Avoid soaking the edges or door seals.
Step 4: Cover with a Warm, Damp Towel
Wet a microfiber towel with warm water, then wring it out so it’s damp—not dripping.
Lay the towel directly over the glass.
This traps moisture and allows the baking soda paste to work more effectively.
Step 5: Let It Sit
Leave the towel in place for 20–30 minutes.
For extremely greasy oven doors, let it sit for up to 45 minutes.
Patience is the secret to avoiding heavy scrubbing.
Step 6: Wipe Away the Grease
Remove the towel and gently wipe away the loosened grease using a damp sponge or microfiber cloth.
Most of the grime should come off with very little effort.
For stubborn spots, apply a little more baking soda and gently rub in circular motions.
Step 7: Rinse the Glass
Wipe the surface with a clean cloth dampened with warm water to remove any baking soda residue.
Repeat until the glass feels smooth.
Step 8: Dry and Polish
Use a dry microfiber cloth to buff the glass until it shines.
Your oven door should now look noticeably cleaner and much clearer.
Extra Cleaning Tips
- Clean your oven door every 4–6 weeks to prevent heavy grease buildup.
- Wipe fresh splatters after cooking once the oven has cooled.
- Avoid steel wool or abrasive scrubbers that can scratch the glass.
- For stubborn baked-on stains, repeat the process rather than scrubbing aggressively.
