PART 2
The moment Julian carried the signed folder out of my hospital room, the Vance family followed him like a victory parade.
Sienna paused at the doorway and glanced at Leo and Oliver.
“Enjoy tonight,” she said softly. “Tomorrow, they’ll be with us.”
I said nothing.
What none of them knew was that six months earlier, when I first discovered Julian’s affair, I had also discovered something far more dangerous.
Money was disappearing from Vance Development.
Millions.
Properties were being transferred through shell companies, signatures were being altered, and several accounts had been quietly moved beyond ordinary corporate oversight.
So I hired attorney Rebecca Shaw.
And we waited.
The papers Julian forced me to sign were exactly what Rebecca had hoped he would eventually produce.
By attaching custody to my silence about company accounts, Julian had connected two matters he should never have connected.
More importantly, he had done it inside a hospital room filled with witnesses.
The security camera had recorded everything.
The social worker had heard everything.
Even Sienna’s phone had captured Julian explaining the deal.
At 6:12 the next morning, my phone rang.
Rebecca.
“Don’t leave the hospital,” she said. “The transfer arrived.”
I looked toward the twins sleeping beside me.
“Two hundred thousand?”
“Yes. And that’s what we needed.”
Twenty minutes later, Julian called.
I let it ring.
Then Eleanor.
Then Sienna.
By seven, eleven missed calls covered my screen.
Something had happened.
At 7:26, Rebecca entered my room carrying a court filing and wearing the smallest smile.
“The custody agreement is being challenged immediately,” she said. “But that isn’t why they’re panicking.”
She placed another document in my hands.
The $200,000 payment had originated from an account Julian apparently believed no outsider could trace.
He was wrong.
The transfer had exposed a direct connection to one of the hidden Vance Development accounts Rebecca had been investigating for months.
Then someone hammered on my hospital door.
Julian stormed inside, pale and furious.
“What did you do?”
Before I could answer, two investigators appeared behind him.
Rebecca leaned closer to me.
“There’s one more thing,” she whispered. “Julian isn’t the person who authorized that account.”
I stared at her.
“Then who did?”
Rebecca turned toward the hallway.
A familiar woman was standing there.
My mother-in-law.
And Eleanor Vance was holding a second set of documents.
