How to Keep Bananas Fresh Much Longer: The Jar Storage Method

  • by

Bananas seem to go from perfectly ripe to overripe in just a few days, especially in warm kitchens. While no method can stop ripening completely, a few simple storage tricks can help keep them fresh longer.

The image shows bananas stored inside a large airtight jar. This method may help reduce exposure to air and moisture, but it’s only one part of proper banana storage.

Why Bananas Ripen So Quickly

Bananas naturally produce ethylene gas, a plant hormone that speeds up ripening. As more ethylene builds up, the fruit becomes softer, sweeter, and eventually develops brown spots.

Heat, humidity, and storing bananas near other ripe fruits can make this happen even faster.
