Green Beans with Bacon

  • by

Step 1: Prepare the Green Beans

Wash the green beans thoroughly. Trim off the ends and cut them into 2-inch pieces.

Step 2: Blanch the Beans

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 4–5 minutes until they are crisp-tender. Drain and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to keep their bright green color. Drain again and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Bacon

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy, about 8–10 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate. Leave about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet.

Step 4: Sauté the Onion

Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 5: Add the Green Beans

Add the blanched green beans to the skillet. Toss them with the onions and bacon grease until evenly coated.

Step 6: Season

Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Stir well to coat the beans with the seasonings.

Step 7: Add Moisture

Pour in the chicken broth or water. Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the beans are tender.

Step 8: Return the Bacon

Add the crispy bacon back to the skillet and toss everything together. If desired, stir in the butter for extra richness.

Step 9: Taste and Adjust

Taste the beans and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Step 10: Serve

Serve hot alongside grilled chicken, steak, roasted turkey, pork chops, or your favorite comfort-food meal.
