Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- Preheat your oven to 170°C (340°F).
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add the condensed milk and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.
Step 2: Add the Dry Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, milk powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture.
- Mix just until a soft, smooth dough forms. Do not overmix.
Step 3: Shape the Cookies
- Lightly flour your work surface.
- Roll the dough to about ½ inch (1.2 cm) thick.
- Cut into squares, hearts, or your favorite shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place the cookies about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking tray.
Step 4: Bake
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the bottoms and edges are lightly golden.
- The tops should remain pale for that classic melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Step 5: Cool & Enjoy
- Let the cookies cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips
- Use softened butter, not melted butter.
- Don’t overbake—the cookies should stay light in color.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
- For extra richness, replace 1 tablespoon of flour with additional milk powder.
These cookies are wonderfully crisp, buttery, and delicate—the perfect homemade treat that disappears almost as quickly as it’s baked!
