Cloves are among the most aromatic spices used in traditional cooking and herbal preparations. Known for their warm fragrance and slightly sweet, spicy flavor, these tiny dried flower buds contain naturally occurring compounds that have attracted scientific interest.
One of the best-known compounds in cloves is eugenol, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties demonstrated in laboratory studies.
Clove tea is a simple homemade beverage that can be prepared with just a few ingredients. Many people enjoy drinking it in the evening because of its comforting aroma and warming taste.
Although cloves have several interesting properties, claims that clove tea cures headaches, cleanses the lungs, burns body fat, or improves circulation have not been established by reliable human studies.
Ingredients
To prepare one cup of homemade clove tea, you will need:
- 5–6 whole cloves.
- 250 ml of drinking water.
- 1 teaspoon of natural honey (optional).
- 1 small cinnamon stick (optional).
- 1 thin slice of fresh ginger (optional).
- A few drops of fresh lemon juice (optional).
Step 1: Choose Good-Quality Cloves
Select whole cloves that have a rich brown color and a strong, pleasant aroma.
Fresh, good-quality cloves generally retain their fragrance and essential oils better than old, poorly stored spices.
Avoid cloves that appear moldy or have an unusual smell.
Step 2: Prepare the Cloves
Place 5–6 whole cloves on a clean cutting board.
You can gently crush them using the back of a spoon to release more of their natural aroma.
There is no need to grind them into powder.
Step 3: Heat the Water
