Caramel Apple Slices

  • by

Step 1: Prepare the Apples

Wash the apples thoroughly and dry them completely.

Using a sharp knife, cut each apple crosswise into thick slices, approximately 1–1.5 cm thick.

Remove any seeds from the slices.

For a neat presentation, choose large apples and aim for slices with a similar thickness.

Step 2: Insert the Wooden Sticks

Carefully make a small slit in the bottom edge of each apple slice.

Insert a wooden popsicle stick into the edge of each slice, pushing it in far enough to hold the apple securely without breaking it.

Arrange the slices on a tray lined with parchment paper.

Step 3: Dry the Apple Slices

Pat both sides of each apple slice with paper towels.

This is an important step because moisture on the apple surface can prevent the chocolate from sticking properly.

If the apples release additional juice, pat them dry again just before dipping.

Step 4: Melt the Chocolate

Place the milk or semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.

Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until completely melted and smooth.

If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to make the chocolate easier to spread.

Alternatively, melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of gently simmering water.

Step 5: Dip the Apple Slices

Hold an apple slice by its wooden stick and dip it into the melted chocolate.

Turn the slice carefully to coat both sides.

Allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

Place the coated apple slice on the parchment-lined tray.

Repeat with the remaining apple slices.

Step 6: Prepare the Caramel

Place the soft caramel candies and milk or cream in a microwave-safe bowl.

Heat in 15–20-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the caramel becomes smooth and pourable.

If the caramel is too thick, add a small amount of milk or cream and stir again.

Let it cool slightly before decorating the apples.

Important: Do not add excessive liquid, as the caramel may become too thin to adhere to the chocolate.

Step 7: Drizzle with Caramel

Using a spoon, drizzle the melted caramel over each chocolate-coated apple slice.

Move the spoon back and forth to create attractive caramel stripes.

Allow some caramel to run over the edges for a delicious homemade appearance.

Step 8: Add White Chocolate

Melt the white chocolate using the same method as the milk chocolate.

Transfer it to a small piping bag or use a spoon to drizzle thin lines over the apple slices.

Alternate the white chocolate and caramel drizzles to create a beautiful layered effect.

Step 9: Add Your Favorite Toppings

While the chocolate and caramel are still slightly soft, sprinkle the apple slices with your favorite toppings.

Try these combinations:

  • Caramel Pecan: Chopped pecans and extra caramel drizzle.
  • Chocolate Crunch: Crushed biscuits and mini chocolate chips.
  • Candy Apple: Colorful candy-coated chocolates and sprinkles.
  • White Chocolate Delight: White chocolate drizzle and crushed toffee.
  • Nutty Caramel: Chopped walnuts with milk chocolate and caramel.

Gently press larger toppings into the chocolate so they stay in place.

Step 10: Chill Until Set

Place the tray in the refrigerator for approximately 20–30 minutes, or until the chocolate has set.

The apple slices should be firm enough to handle without smudging the decorations.

Step 11: Serve and Enjoy

Arrange the finished caramel apple slices on a serving platter.

Serve them chilled for the best texture and flavor.

For parties, prepare several topping varieties so guests can choose their favorites.
