Butter Swim Biscuits

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 230°C (450°F).
  2. Place the butter in an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. Put the dish in the oven until the butter completely melts.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl combine:
    • flour
    • baking powder
    • sugar
    • salt
  2. Mix well.

Step 3: Add the Buttermilk

  1. Pour the buttermilk into the flour mixture.
  2. Stir gently until a thick sticky dough forms.

Do not overmix.

Step 4: Add Dough to the Butter

  1. Carefully remove the baking dish with melted butter from the oven.
  2. Spoon the biscuit dough into the dish directly over the butter.
  3. Spread it gently so it fills the pan.

The butter will come up around the edges.

Step 5: Cut the Dough

  1. Use a knife or spatula to cut the dough into 9 squares before baking.
  2. This makes them easier to separate later.

Step 6: Bake

  1. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
