A Simple Way to Help Clear Mucus from Your Lungs, Soothe Your Throat, and Relieve a Stuffy Nose

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (or fresh turmeric)
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for adults and children over 1 year old)
  • A pinch of black pepper (optional, helps absorb curcumin from turmeric)

Step 1: Boil the Water

Bring 2 cups of water to a gentle boil.

Step 2: Add the Ginger

Add the sliced ginger.

Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

Ginger contains natural compounds that may help soothe throat irritation and support normal respiratory function.

Step 3: Stir in the Turmeric

Add the turmeric and stir well.

Continue simmering for another 3–5 minutes.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory properties, though its effects from food are generally modest.

Step 4: Strain the Tea

Remove from heat.

Strain into a mug if using fresh ginger or turmeric.

Step 5: Add Lemon and Honey

Allow the drink to cool slightly.

Stir in:

  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Honey (optional)

Avoid adding honey to very hot water to preserve its flavor.

Do not give honey to children under one year of age.

How to Drink It

Drink one warm cup once or twice daily while you have congestion.

Warm fluids may help thin mucus and make it easier to clear from your throat.
