Step 1: Preheat & Prepare
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together:
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
Set aside.
Step 3: Cream Butter & Sugar
- Beat softened butter until creamy.
- Add sugar and beat for 3–4 minutes until light and fluffy.
This creates soft, airy cupcakes.
Step 4: Add Eggs & Vanilla
- Add eggs one at a time.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
Beat until smooth.
Step 5: Combine with Dry Ingredients
- Add dry ingredients gradually.
- Alternate with milk.
- Mix just until combined.
Do not overmix.
Step 6: Make the Chocolate Batter
In a small bowl:
- Mix cocoa powder with 2 tablespoons milk.
- Take about 1 cup of the vanilla batter and mix it with the cocoa mixture.
Now you have your chocolate batter.
Step 7: Create the Marble Effect
- Add 1 spoon of vanilla batter into each liner.
- Add 1 spoon of chocolate batter on top.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl.
Don’t over-swirl — you want visible patterns.
Step 8: Bake
Bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely before frosting.
