🏥 Why Repeated Seizures in a Baby Need Urgent Attention
Seizures in infants can have many possible causes, and doctors may need examinations, blood tests, imaging, and sometimes an EEG to determine what is happening.
If a baby has back-to-back seizures without returning to normal between them, a seizure lasting more than five minutes, difficulty breathing, or does not wake afterward, emergency medical care is needed immediately.
During a seizure, caregivers should stay with the baby, move dangerous objects away, place the baby safely on their side when possible, and never put anything in the baby’s mouth or try to restrain the movements. Timing the seizure and recording a video when it is safe can also help doctors understand what happened.
Some seizure patterns in babies can occur in clusters, and early evaluation is particularly important when these episodes are suspected.
